There you go. Here’s a better picture of my acid nails.

I followed these directions to get this design. I had never done this sort of thing before to my nails and I just wanted to quickly supplement the directions in case you want to try something similar.

  • If you’re doing this for the first time, cover your work area with paper towels or newspaper. It gets quite messy. Also, have lots of cotton balls and q-tips on hand.
  • Do not use expensive nail polish. This project requires lots of nail polish, and you do not want to throw half of your $20 bottle of nail polish away. This project is perfect for using up those nail polish colors you have that you never use.
  • The directions say to dip one finger at a time into the nail-polish swirled water, but I say you should put your pointer, middle, and ring finger together (a la scout sign) and dip them all at the same time so you are maximizing the use of all of that nail polish. Then do both of your thumbs and pinky fingers together. 
  • Also, do not dip your entire finger in the water. Try to leave your fingerprints and clean as you can, and only dip your fingernails in the water.
  • Clean up is quite extensive. While the polish is still wet, try to wipe it off on the newspaper/paper towel that you’ve laid out. When all of the fingers are done clean up with a cotton ball first, then a q-tip.

So there you go. My first attempt at nail marbling was pretty ok, and now I’m really psyched up to buy a bunch of cheap nail polishes from Walmart so I can try it again.

I think junior year will be the year of the psychedelic nails.
